The LA CannonBall is an opinion journal that will present in a civil and respectful fashion different opinions on issues we students care about. Our hope is to show that we can discuss and learn from one another without disagreement becoming divisive. We intend to publish four issues each year: Fall, Winter, New Year, and Spring!
Our name, the CannonBall, recalls a moving story from the life of Saint Ignatius Loyola. When he was a soldier fighting in the Battle of Pamplona in 1521, Saint Ignatius was wounded by a cannon ball that shattered his leg. His recovery was slow. During the time he was bedridden, his self-regard fell away. He found himself reading books about the life of Christ and the Saints. This experience changed his life and history. An injury from a cannon ball caused Ignatius to see things differently and to reevaluate his life’s purpose. Similarly, we hope the opinions expressed in LA’s CannonBall will cause you to think about the world around you in new ways and that you too will be moved to make a difference in our community.
I sincerely hope you enjoy and appreciate The CannonBall as much as my team and I have in creating it.
Yours truly,
Annie Benson, Founder of The CannonBall, class of 2027
